Cool desk globe!
This globe floats in an almost friction free environment. The energy to overcome the fluid friction is provided by light that passes through the globe shell and makes contact with very specialized solar cells within the globe. An electric current provided by the cells powers a drive mechanism designed to move at a very low speed. Unestanding how a compass works, the Earth's magnetic field pushes against the drive mechanism with in the globe, much like a needle of a compass, to move it forward.
